Raptures

Practicing Buddhist Joel Sherman had to stop meditating after a series of bizarre events derailed his mind and lead to a stint inside a mental hospital. Four years later, Joel's life is back on track, and he and his wife are about to take a long-delayed Italian honeymoon. Apparently cured of all mental illness, Joel resumes his meditation practice but inadvertently opens a door in reality that links him to the Guardians - demonic creatures of Mind who are addicted to the "raptures" that come when they feed off human energy. A frightening encounter with the Guardians in a nightmare version of Venice shakes Joel's confidence and destabilizes his marriage.

Returning home to San Francisco, Joel is forced to relive the days of his hospitalization, and realizes that his relationship with the Guardians has a long history. A mysterious song written by his late saxophonist father, and a strange funeral, complicate matters. Add to this a series of brutal murders, a police investigation in which Joel is the principal suspect, the fabulous appearance of a 5-year-old girl that almost saves his marriage, and a secret Buddhist teaching given by a mysterious Tibetan master, and Joel has his hands full as he battles across dimensions of Mind to save his life, his marriage, and just possibly the world.
